Contribution to the knowledge of the total number of the Orthodox population in the Daruvar region from 1809 to 1839

Sažetak
The article presents selected data on the population of Orthodox parishes in the Daruvar region: Veliki Bastaji, Bijela, Brestovac, Daruvar, Doljani, Uljanik, Cjepidlake, Trojeglava, Klisa and Grahovljani at the beginning of the 19 th century, with a focus on the period from 1809 to 1839. The basic source for the article is the protostatistical population censuses that are available for the settlements of the mentioned parishes. Although protostatistical lists of the total number of inhabitants are not completely precise, it is possible to conclude that in the Daruvar area between 1809 and 1828/30 there was an increase in the number of the Orthodox population. By 1839, the number of the Orthodox population was reduced. On the example of the protostatistical census of the Orthodox population from 1825, it can be seen that there were more men than women, 8.72 inhabitants per household, and 4.19 persons per couple. The number of homes corresponds to the number of enumerated families. In 1825, the most populated parishes were Daruvar, Bijela and Uljanik, and the least populated were Klisa and Doljani. In later lists, the parish of Daruvar remains the most populated, followed by the parishes of Bastaji and Bijela. The parishes of Trojeglava and
Grahovljani were then listed with the smallest number of inhabitants.
