Summary: On the 21st anniversary of the Dr. Antun Mahnić Minor Old Slavonic Academy and the 20th anniversary of the death of Academician Branko Fučić

Sažetak
The writing of this article was prompted by two major anniversaries, and it deals with the establishment, development and operations of the Dr. Antun Mahnić Minor Old Slavonic Academy and the significance and role of Academician Branko Fučić in the initiation of this educational project. The aim of the project was to gather teachers, scholars and gifted seventh-form pupils to research individual topics from local history and culture as a component of national and European history and culture. It may be said that the Academy fulfilled the purpose of its establishment and work. A total of 46 teachers passed through it, and they became familiar with and practiced the project curriculum and thus furthered their vocational knowledge. The Academy’s greatest resource is the roughly 750 gifted pupils who worked on individual topics and workshops in the preceding years. All of the workshops evaluated developmental phases and today it is understandable that this evaluation is not complete. We hope there will be many more years of work ahead of us, and the Academy is in fact a ‘living organism’ that is still developing. Through teamwork, all participants have made their contribution to ensure that cultural and historical heritage of our native region is not forgotten, but rather that it is thoroughly studied and researched. Memories of Branko Fučić and his work have faded in the years that have passed since his death, particularly among the younger generations who did not live in his time. That is why it is necessary to become acquainted with his books, research and major contributions to the study of our history and culture. The 22nd convocation of the Academy will be held in October 2019. The topic will be “To Branko Fučić with love”.
