Sažetak
The theme of traditional national piano schools has only recently emerged in a few scientific papers and researches. Although most of the professional pianists distinguish the foremost piano schools such as Austro-German, French or Russian, the characteristics of particular piano schools, their similarities and differences, are most often analysed by reviewing the pianistic activity of their exponents – pianists and piano pedagogues. However, a more significantframework for the study of piano schools has been presented in the scientific research of pianists Sofia Lourenço and Wojciech Wisniewski and will be taken as a theoretical starting point for the analysis of this topic. With the review of the most important piano schools, their qualities and representatives in this paper, we will try to define and place the Zagreb Piano School by showing its role in the education of pianists and piano pedagogues. Since there is no significant scientific research on the influence of piano schools in our area and on the Zagreb Piano School, a special segment of this paper presents the results of a survey that answers questions related to the tradition and influence of the Zagreb Piano School on contemporary trends in Croatian pianism. The results show that the researchers are familiar with the issues of piano schools and its significance (57,7 %), but only 35 % of them considered themselves representatives of particular piano schools, which is in line with the tendencies for the universalization of contemporary pianism.
