Sažetak

The purpose of this paper, as an integral part of the doctoral dissertation, was to investigate one of the aspects of the musical world of young people in the area of the city of Trogir – the perception and reception of music.
It includes material collected from December 2004 to July 2011, in individual and group interviews with one hundred and twenty-two young respondents over a longer period, as well as listening to the proposed audio recordings.
The work was designed in three different units with regard to the concept of music – traditional, classical and popular, because the respondents themselves tended to classify it in that way.
The aim of the research was to understand what the presence of music in everyday life means to young consumers, to investigate the established attitudes about it (roughly speaking, prejudices and stereotypes about certain types of music) and to examine to what extent music shapes everyday life as a symbolic entity of society, accepting the fact that music may or may not be art – as knowledge that is not a priori good or bad.
The topic was observed mostly from an anthropological and ethnomusicological point of view, while respecting the views of contemporary music aesthetics and musicology. The reason for this is the fact that a modern (young) person is at the same time a participant in several different musical cultures, whereby they can overlap and freely complement each other and, in accordance with the external factors that caused them to arise, form a unique musical world of its holder, whether it is about an individual or a group.
