Abstract

Changes in Europe followed by numerous trends it the field of economic, political and scientific development put national minorities into a new position. The Creation of new, more democratic and free relations in Europe, places new tasks and challenges for countries in regulating national minority rights. The current period of change, along with the application of democratic values of a western, liberal-democratic system, in a rising number of countries, forces the need to insure the presence of the national minorities in the processes of decisions making. The effective participation of national minorities in political life, represents a very important part of a democratic society. European experiences show that, in order to enable this participation, it is often necessary that special solutions for political representation of national minorities are regulated by law. The starting points and the possibility of the political representation of national minorities are considered in the article.
