Sažetak
This paper describes phrases that consist of a common noun and a proper name, and have the characteristic of inanimate. In such phrases, the common noun may have a descriptive function (rijeka Sava) or it may be a part of a compound name (Republika Hrvatska). The common noun and the proper name can differ in gender (rijeka Dunav) and in number (grad Križevci), but it is expected that they match in case: u gradu Zagrebu, na rijeci Savi. In practice, this does not apply to all individual examples, and the paper analyzes, based on the examples from the hrWaC corpus, what affects the (non)matching of nouns in case. The meaning of nouns is taken into account, e.g. whether there is a difference in case matching between nouns denoting natural geographical objects (rijeka, planina…), those denoting administrative-territorial units (općina, grad…) and those denoting public objects purposes (muzej, dvorana…) and whether matching in gender affects matching in case.
