THE MEADOW WEED FLORA OF PLEŠIVICA HILLS (NW CROATIA)

Sažetak
The meadows were investigated on Plešivica hills (NW Croatia) at 9 locations (Fig.1.) during two vegetational seasons (2002, 2003). The floristic composition of the meadows shows a great number of weed species. The definition of grassland weeds is (Kvakan 1952; Kovačević 1956; Šoštarić-Pisačić i Kovačević 1968; Hulina 1980, 1984, 1998): The meadow weed species are worthless species or poor cattle food. The species which interfere with the development of other species of economic value (these species are not useful) or interfere with the agricultural activities (mowing, grazing or have the influence on milk quality as well); they are also meadow weeds in fact. The most important meadow weed species have depressing, harmful or poisonous influence on animals. 75 taxa (72 species and 3 subspecies) of meadow weed flora were noted that belonged to 26 families. The most dominant families were Asteraceae, Lamiaceae and Poaceae. Hemicryphytes and perennial herbaceous plants were dominant on the meadows that were the subject of this research. Most of the species were of the Euroasian origin and also widespread cosmopolites.
