Sažetak
The paper analyzes the Danube Strategy as the second EU's macroregional strategy, its goals and position within the EU's governance evolution. The Danube Strategy aims to integrate relevant EU's sectoral policies and stakeholders within the Danube Region on a functional basis and it has an important external dimension at the same time because it embraces countries included in the EU enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy. Furthermore, it emanates basic principles of the Europe 2020 strategy as it wants to achieve ''smart, sustainable and inclusive growth" in the Danube Region. In addition,
the Danube Strategy aims to attain territorial cohesion, now an explicit EU goal enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty and tackle challenges of the "post-accession crisis" faced by the new EU member states.
