Sažetak

This paper analyses the final report of the nominal convergence criteria, which includes price stability, public finances, exchange rate stability and long-term interest rates prior to the introduction of the euro as the official currency of the Republic of Croatia as of January 1, 2023, as well as the nominal criteria for the euro area member states. The paper aims to contribute to the preliminary observation of whether the Maastricht criteria do or do not serve to fully assess a candidate country’s readiness to join the euro area, that is, to introduce the euro. Another goal of the paper is to contribute to the discussion on the subject of the introduction of the euro being a predominantly political project. Also, the paper attempts to evaluate the final state of convergence of the Republic of Croatia before the introduction of the euro on January 1, 2023.
