Abstract

The aim of the paper is to determine the success of the introduction of sub-measure 17.1 “Insurance of crops, animals and plants” from the Rural Development Program of the Republic of Croatia. The paper analyzes the users of the mentioned sub-measure, compares the state of Croatia with other EU countries, and describes risk management instruments in the EU. According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture from October 2016 to January 2020, 30,159 applications were received, and the total amount of support was EUR 56 million. The research found that the introduction of insurance premium subsidies led to an increase in the number of agricultural insurances and gross premiums charged, but there are still plenty of risk management measures and strategies in the EU that Croatia does not use.
