Abstract

Summary
Like other human behaviours, the attitudes toward accidental or intentional exposure
to sunlighth were changing through the history. Real scientific consideration about the
influence of sunlight on the human skin started at the and of the ninthenth century, when the
therapeutic treatment using sunlight was introduced. The sunbathing as a cosmetic trend
became popular during wentieth of the last century, together with the development of see
tourism and bathing costumes. The development of the sun bathing creams came during
fifthies. The first cream with high protection factor (SPF 30) was developed during nineties.
The development of solariums was paralel to the story of the development of high protection
factor creams against sunlight, and the sunbathing is not taking as the healthiest behaviour
today, although the exposure to sunlight could be beneficial in the treatment of some
diseases.
