Abstract

Unlike other emigrant printed media, the Hrvatica magazine was intended primarily for women, girls and mothers, both in emigration and in the homeland. The intention was to encourage them through seminars/courses to be partners in building the future of their people. The tireless work of people in the Croatian press among expatriate Croats (Hrvatska revija, Danica, Hrvatska budućnost, Hrvatski tjednik, Hrvatski put, Otpor...) appealed to the human nature, seriousness and patriotism of Croats outside Croatia. Everyone strove to raise or build the political consciousness of members of the Croatian nation, because only in this was the goal of Croatia's independence could be reached. This paper will present the activities and work of the collaborators in the Hrvatica magazine, who revealed through conversations, by living and working with Croatian men and women in the diaspora, influencing either through writing or seminars/courses, the preservation and development of identity of Croatian women. In this way, they brought the Croatian word closer to Croats. Little information is available on the Hrvatica magazine precisely because it was kept under wraps at a time when Croats in the diaspora often endured severe setbacks, even suffering physical attacks.
