Abstract

The base of a liturgical object was recovered in the course of
archaeological investigation of the St Peter church site near
Vodnjan in 2009 and 2010. The top part of the object is
missing; based on comparative analysis, however, we are able to
posit that the base is most likely from a chalice or a ciborium. The
inscription at the underside of the base indicates that procurement
of the object was initiated by the St Quirinus fraternity, which
was active in the Vodnjan area. The object was fabricated at an
unknown Venetian workshop between the late 16th and first
half of the 17th c.
