Sažetak

Inflation as an economic phenomenon of permanent growth of the general price level has been present since ancient history, since the appearance of money as a means of payment. In today‘s economic systems, it is considered the rule, not the exception. The end of the Second World War in Europe encouraged the idea of establishing a community of European countries that would have a common currency. The idea was quickly realized and the countries began to unite in the European Union, and the founding treaty determined that the European Union would be a monetary union. Shortly after the founding of the European Union, the member states began to introduce the euro as a common currency. With the entry of the Republic of Croatia into the European Union, the possibility of introducing a common currency was presented to the Republic of Croatia. The euro replaced the Croatian
kuna as the official currency in the Republic of Croatia on January 1, 2023. The introduction of the euro caused outrage from part of the public, and the fear was partly caused by the concern that the exchange of currencies could increase inflation. The paper analyzes the effect of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Croatia on the movement of net wages, the movement of prices of goods and services, the movement of unemployment and the movement of inflation.
