Terrors of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Abstract
This work aims to highlight the humanitarian crisis that occurred during the
preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. The focus is put
on the factors that led to some of the problems related to the World Cup, especially those related to the violation of the human rights of migrant workers (physical labor in heat, confiscation of travel and personal documents, inability to leave) during work on Qatari infrastructure. Emphasizing the lack of transparency in the selection of Qatar as the host of the twenty-second World Cup, this work portrays the attitude of Qatari authorities towards migrant workers, Qatar’s financial power, the kafala system and its consequences. Qatar, as an authority is not the only actor responsible for such a situation, but precisely because of
it, it has been in the media spotlight.
