Sažetak
The article is focused on two plays written by contemporary Croatian playwrights, namely Dnevna doza mazohizma by Dina Vukelić and Your Love is King by Espi Tomičić. The two plays, although each specific in terms of the way of treating the traditional dramatic form, show a common tendency of introducing narrative elements into the drama, i.e. to bring awareness to the deeply narrative nature of the drama. From the point of view of post-structuralist theories, plays are at the fundamental level stories just like novels, and the fact that some of them are shown and others told is of secondary importance. These theories as well as modern drama theories do not differentiate drama from other literary forms stating its lack of narrative agency, rather they are pointing out that in plays this agency can be manifested in various ways. The article is going to explore in what way the narrative elements are incorporated in those two contemporary Croatian plays and how they are eventually used to intervene into the traditional dramatic form. One of the important questions to answer would be what potentially inspires this generation of writers to lean towards these kinds of interventions into the dramatic form as well as which meanings and conclusions we could draw from it.
