The Economic Impact of the Application of Digitalization in Agriculture

Sažetak
Precision agriculture is a concept of integrating new technologies, supported by information systems and agribusiness. Accordingly, it is an integrated management system designed to match the means of production to the optimal needs of agricultural crops. A particular contribution of precision agriculture lies in a combination of information and technology to detect an appropriate management system for the cultivation of agricultural crops that optimizes profit and, especially, the one that takes the protection of natural resources and the soil into its concern. It is of an utmost importance that new information technologies assist us to make better decisions about different aspects of agricultural production. The paper uses the data collected by a metaanalysis of the published scientific and professional articles dealing with this topic. Scientific methods were applied based on the data collected: desk research, descriptive methods, analytical and synthetic methods, inductive and deductive methods, and the methods of comparative analysis. The aim of the paper is to study the economic impact of precision agriculture—that is, to optimize the management and distribution of inputs while taking into account the specificities of each location and increasing production efficiency. The fact is that the farmers who effectively use the information provided by precision agriculture achieve higher yields and effects than those who do not enjoy the benefits and opportunities of precision agriculture. From an economic point of view, the research results demonstrate that precision and smart farming provides an opportunity to obtain information to make optimal decisions about the management of agricultural production and the entire agribusiness, from the production to the processing and distribution of agricultural products and food.
