Sažetak

The aim of this article is to analyse the trends and structure of organic livestock breeding in the Republic of Croatia with reference to the European Union. Organic production in Croatia is an important sector of agriculture as it contributes to sustainable development and protection of the environment. The available data were processed using the method of time series analysis method and the descriptive statistical method. In Croatia, organic farming, measured by the number of heads/beaks, ranks first for sheep, followed by cattle, goats, pigs and poultry. In the period from 2014 to 2022, organic beef production expressed in tonnes, grew the most fastest (3,089 %), followed by mutton (2,927 %) and goat meat (1,250 %), pig production stagnated (20 %), and organic production of cow's milk and cheese decreased significantly (-95 %). Despite the growth, the sales channels for domestic organic products are only weakly developed. The most important challenges include the further development of sales channels and increasing the share of organic production in the overall agricultural sector.
