Sažetak
This paper presents two options for how the philosophy of technology can position itself in order to address the relationship between autonomy and automation. The two options can be briefly labelled “possibility” and “reality”. Both are well known in the philosophy of technology. The main part of this article argues that the so-called autonomous technology poses a (new) challenge for the philosophy of technology because the autonomy of model now plays a special role. This makes the concept of autonomy relevant to the development process of technology and thus introduces a new component into the relationship between autonomy and automation. This makes a further, additional positioning of the philosophy of technology necessary for the analysis, namely a kind of working partnership with the philosophy of science.
