ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) – MULTIMODAL APPROACH

Sažetak
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD) is one of the most frequent neorodevelopmental disorders in childhood and adolescence. ADHD is cognitive and bihevioral disorder caracterised by hyperactivity, impulsivity and attention deficit. The diagnosis is being made based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV) and International Classification Disorders (ICD-10) classification.
The symptoms occur before the age of seven,four times more frequently in boys then in girls and should be obvious for at least 6 months in two different living surraundings. In diagnostic and therapeutical procedures of the ADHD sy mulltidisciplinary approach is essential connecting the parents and teachers. The cause of the disease is still unknown but we are able to recognize unfaveurable external factors, differences in brain structure and genetic influences. The best results in treatment of children with ADHD are achieaved by combination of medications and various psychosocial and psychoeducational treatments. The methods of treatment are presented in details. The parents should be familiar with the nature of the disorder. Their role in social adaptation of the child is emphasized. Ignorance of the ADHD symptoms as weel as exclusion of optimal therapy harm the child development, schooling and transformance into healthy social beeing.
