Sažetak

In 2019, Croatia instituted the Day of the Peaceful Reintegration of the Croatian Danube Region, commemorating it officially for the first time in early 2020, coinciding with the Day of International Recognition. This new holiday signifies an increasing interest among Croatian
political elites in a previously overlooked aspect of local peacebuilding history, which stands in contrast to the prevalent nationalist celebrations of wartime victories. However, the aspiration to share the experience of peaceful reintegration with other nations, particularly Ukraine, is hindered by a lack of strategic planning essential for effective implementation as well as insufficient progress in protection of national minorities rights. Case studies from older EU member states illustrate that long-standing deficiencies in peacebuilding do not necessarily preclude Croatia, as a small nation and a member of major Western multilateral organizations, from addressing these challenges in the future. For a successful strategy, it is imperative
that Croatia actively involves organizations representing the Serbian community, which emerged during this transitional period and were profoundly affected by the reintegration, in its efforts to share the experiences of the UNTAES on an international scale.
