Sažetak
Geographic space often has symbolistic cult significance. Observing Klek Mountain in the context of the landscape sacralization, this paper investigates the importance of legends in the development of tourism in the Ogulin area. In the literature review, the authors point out the relative lack of papers dealing with sacred geography in Croatian geography, as its study is mainly ethnological in nature. A survey of 565 respondents in Croatia shows that legends are not a priority criterion for selecting a tourist destination, but that locations of cult significance are not completely unknown. Statistical data show a constant number of visitors to Ogulin and an upward trend of visitors to Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales. Insight was gained regarding tourism promotion of the legends of the Ogulin area with field indicators, which were compared with similar examples in Slovenia. Interviews with a local storyteller, a Croatian ethnologist and a cultural anthropologist, and an expert in tourism geography from a neighbouring country explored the importance of legends in the development of tourism in Croatia and the broader world. The research confirmed that the legends of the Ogulin area, as a consequence of landscape sacralization, contribute to the development of tourism.
