Sažetak
By following the social media accounts and interests of researchers and citizens on the theme of photography and events from the history of Dubrovnik, it was noticed that the theme of sports, predominantly water polo, drew great interest from the citizens of Dubrovnik. Ever since it was founded, Jug Swimming Club has meant much more than just sports. The team, which had grown from a swimming group of friends with mostly children playing, became state champions at their first big competition in 1925. The State Archives in Dubrovnik keeps the holdings of Jug Swimming Club since its establishments until 1961, and a part of the materials of Jug Water Polo Club from 1961 until 2003. However, by examining the photographs of personal fonds and collections that were not directly related to the club, it was concluded that since its establishment, and especially since the 1930s, the citizens of Dubrovnik found it extremely important to support their club. The work of identifying the photographs showing the water polo players, the swimmers and the competitions of Jug Swimming Club required the search of all archival fonds and collections containing photographs. The archivally processed fonds and collections, for which aggregated and analytical inventories have been drawn up, made the work somewhat easier. However, the various practices of describing the photographs in certain fonds and collections did not aid in finding the desired content more rapidly. Besides in the fond of Jug Swimming Club, the desired photographs were found in three personal fonds and a single collection of photographs. Archival processing and digitization of photographs resulted in the creation of a separate web page at the address https://jug.dad.hr and, with the use of Tainacan platform, an interactive digital database that allows for a simple search and review of photographs. This digital database gives the fans of the sport and the club the unique opportunity to find a large number of the photographs of Jug Swimming Club in one place. The project not only preserves the cultural heritage of Dubrovnik but also creates new possibilities for researching the history of swimming and water polo in Croatia. Special attention was paid to the methods of long term storage of digitized holdings at the State Archives in Dubrovnik.
