Abstract

The paper examines the development of the institutions and society of the towns of Flanona (Plomin/Fianona) and Tarsatica (Rijeka/Fiume) during Roman times, spanning from the conquest to the 3rd century AD. It places particular attention to the process of romanisation of the indigenous people and the relationships between these two communities, Aquileia and western Istria, as evidenced by epigraphic findings.
