Sažetak

The author familiarizes readers with Semantic Web standards and technologiessuch as RDF, Turtle, SPARQL, and ontologies. Ontologies and their elementsare defined according to literature, and the author discusses ontologies concerningthe archival domain, like ontology made by Kyriaki-Manessi and Dendrinos,ARKIVO, ArDO, ArCO, and KAM ontology. The author analyzes the Records inContexts archival standard and its ontology RIC-O. After this analysis, the authordescribes various ontology modeling methodologies and uses a particular methodto construct his example. The constructed ontology called ‘Daetika‘ is based on the conceptual model ofarchival ethics with elements of just behavior and characteristics of self-reflexivity,empathy, inclusivity, and transparency. The conceptual model was created similarlyto the theory of justice by John Rawls and the theory of virtues by Scott Cline. Theauthor defines the ‘world‘ of exemplar ontology by using visual conceptualizationand Description Logic. He designs Daetika primarily in the Protégé system. Aftermodeling classes, data, object properties, and axioms in the ontology, the authortests the ontology’s coherence and consistency with reasoners. He also creates severalRDF Turtle files with descriptions – comprising Daetika classes and propertiesand classes, individuals, and properties of other ontologies. The author tests theircompliance with Daetika ontology with a specially designed script. The paper also concludes on possible archival implementations of ontologies - formore powerful descriptions, better collaboration while describing entities, constructionof new knowledge about entities, better dealing with user inquiries thatare impossible to anticipate, and for cleansing archival discourse. At the very end, the authorrecommends translating RIC-O into Croatian to familiarize the domestic archivalcommunity with RIC. This may possibly involve expanding the translated ontologyto encompass all semantic units from national metadata specification. The last recommendationis the most general and considers enhancing ontology consistencyby utilizing Description Logic.
