Sažetak

The ability to use historical maps is an integral part of the concept of space, which, in turn, plays an important role in the student's understanding of the past. Following an analysis of elementary and high school history textbooks from all publishers, written according to the new curriculum of 2019, the paper investigates the issue of synchronization of terms used on historical maps with the text itself, as well as mutual synchronization of terms between maps of the same textbook and textbooks of other publishers. In doing so, emphasis is placed on the area between the Adriatic Sea, its wider continental hinterland and the Sava-Drava confluence, i.e. the terms Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia, in the period from the early Middle Ages to 1867.
