Abstract

The paper presents the project of building a mobile robot with the possibility of fully autonomous navigation through a maze composed of parts measuring 20 cm x 20 cm. Important characteristics of this robot are independence in movement through the maze, low price, appearance adapted to moving through the maze and a simple and reliable left hand algorithm for navigating the maze. Hardware (Cytron UNO SE microcontroller, 28BYJ-48 stepper motors with controllers, Gens Ace Soaring 1000 mAh 7.4 V battery, Velleman LM2596S voltage reduction DC converter, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors) selection, robot building and programming are described in detail. The robot was tested on a simple maze composed of 11 square parts measuring 20 cm x 20 cm. This maze included all situations that designed robot needs to overcome in order to move independently through the maze using left hand algorithm. The testing results showed successful fully independent movement of the built robot through the given maze and reliability of the selected simple left hand algorithm for mobile robot navigation.
