Sažetak
The paper analyzes phraseological units with the zoosomatic component horn that areexcerpted from the dialectological dictionaries of Čakavian vernaculars. The collectedphraseological material can be categorized into several groups based on their deepstructure or motivational element. The first group consists of phraseological unitsrelated to the general meaning of the word horn, its function, or the behaviour of horned animals. The second group is motivated by the utilitarian value of the horn. The third group includes phraseological units related to one of the meanings of horn in general dictionaries – a growth on the head of certain mythological beings. The fourth group consists of phraseological units centred around the horn as an apotropaic symbol. Finally, the fifth group includes phraseological units in which the horn is a symbol of marital infidelity. The paper aims to determine the motivation behind the phraseological unitsand their connection to the phraseological meaning in each group.
