Abstract
Every sixth person in the world has some form of disability, and this proportion is expected to rise in the future. Although much has been done in this field, the inclusion of people with physical or mental/intellectual disabilities in tourism is still often blocked by various barriers. In addition, a lack of interest and attention on the part of tourism service providers remains a common problem, even in countries with a relatively high level of socio-economic development. The tourism sector is currently missing a significant economic opportunity by not adequately catering to the needs of this special market segment. Based on the statistical data, the findings in international and Hungarian literature and the results of international studies and research done with the participation of the authors, the paper demonstrates the problems faced by people with disabilities when travelling and outlines possible solutions and good practices for making the tourism sector more inclusive.
