Sažetak

Famous German actress Helene Odilon was born on 1 July 1865 in Dresden as Helene Peterman. She started her artistic career in Berlin, and realized her most acclaimed roles at the Viennese Volkstheatre. The undisputed acting skills and irresistible erotic magnetism put her in the limelight wherever she went. She toured the USA two times, returning wreathed in glory and financial success. During a short holiday in Tirol in 1903 she suffered a heavy brain stroke, that partially paralyzed the right side of her body. Odilon begun squandering her huge wealth in the search of the medicine. During that quest, she came to our region in 1906 and took residence in Park hotel in Crikvenica, where she met and soon married a pharmacist from Zagreb, Bela pl. Pečić. As soon as 1912, she built two villas in Selce: a residential edifice on Punta and another villa, serving as a sanatorium, located on a road to Crikvenica. When the WWI broke out, the financial markets suffered, eventually devaluating the possessions of Helen Odilon. Soon her husband Bela left her for opera singer Maja Strozzi. Helene Odilon spent the following years in very meagre conditions. She eventually died in complete anonymity, on 9 February 1939, in an almshouse in Baden near Vienna.
