Abstract

We consider the symmetry breaking of the SU (5) symmetry to the physical SU (3) x SU (2) x U (1) symmetry induced by an effective 75-dimensional Higgs field. We present a one-loop renormalization-group analysis of the stability of the SU (3) x SU (2) x U (1) symmetry of the absolute minimum. We have found regions in the full parameter space where all stability requirements, between the Planck scale 1019 GeV and the typical GUT scale 1016 GeV, are satisfied. The usefulness of the sum-of-square potential in the stability analysis is explicitly demonstrated.
