Sažetak

During the month of March and April 1999 tentative archeological excavations have been undertaken in the late medieval fortress of Drivenik. 6 different sounds have been excavated in order to find some material documentation regarding the age. The fortress is built on top of the dolomite morenic hilltop in the northwestern part of the Vinodol valley. Although very scarse, the material found during earlier excavations demonstrate the certainty that the hilltop was inhabited at the beginning of the last millenium B.C. during the bronze age. In the middle ages the hilltop has been taken over by the new settlers, the Croats, but the fortress her self has taken the form we see now, much later, probably in two different phases. The first phase should have been in the second half of the 15 century and the second at the end of the 16 century. Taking into consideration the finds, the fortress has been again in use during the 16 and 17 centuries and after abandoned. She has been seriously damaged during the second world war. Tthe excavations were ment to show the state of the structure, than conservation and the successive presentation to the public as an exceedingly important monument of the Vinodol valley.
