Abstract

Digital competencies have become essential for lifelong learning in the context of global digitalisation. Computer science education supports the development of these skills by preparing students to navigate and participate effectively in the digital society. Since the introduction of the computer science curriculum in Croatia in 2018, students at all educational levels have been acquiring knowledge related to digital literacy, computational thinking, and the safe use of technology. The historical development of computer science in education reveals challenges such as a lack of equipment and qualified teachers but also continuous progress in the modernisation of the education system. The contemporary computer science curriculum promotes interdisciplinary learning and the development of competencies essential for lifelong learning, empowering students to become creators of digital content rather than mere users.
