Fragment of the literary Kajkavian translation of the Qur'an

Sažetak

The paper deals with the manuscript fragment, kept under the signature R 3654 in the National and University Library in Zagreb, containing the literary Kajkavian translation of the Qur'an attributed, according to the data from the catalog, to Ignac Kristijanović.
Analyzing the translation's graphic and orthographic features, the authors conclude that the attribution is incorrect and that the translator was not Kristijanović but an unknown translator. Based on the fragment's linguistic characteristics (graphics, phonology, morphology, syntax), they show that the language of the fragment is literary Kajkavian of the first half of the 19th century. The characteristics of the translation are dealt with from the point of view of translation studies, and its exceptional cultural value is pointed out.
