Female Vocational Education in Civil Croatia and Slavonia (1868 - 1918)

Abstract
The goal of this paper is to show the development of female vocational education in civil Croatia and Slavonia while they were parts of Austria-Hungary, a former dual monarchy of central Europe. Materials used as sources were newspapers and reports issued by the Zagreb Royal National Vocational School. This period in history was selected because of the educational system’s expansion in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Also, the two most important Croatian educational acts were enacted in the same period. In order to best show the importance of vocational schools, firstly the history of education in Croatia and female education are presented, which is followed by an overview of the most important vocational schools for girls and trade courses offered to female students.
