Sažetak
This paper describes the position of vocational schools in Slovene provinces as secondary schools in Austria under the influence of Austrian school policy and legislature. It describes the development of vocational school system in Slovenia which shows us that there were two types of secondary vocational schools. One type of vocational schools was organised and led by Slovene companies, chambers and associations and they were Slovene vocational schools (trade, commercial, agriculture, etc.). At the same time, vocational schools that were founded as a part of general-program secondary schools (vocational school for craftsmen in general-program secondary school, commercial school, drawing school) and teacher-training schools were public schools, led by the Ministry of Theology and Science in Vienna. They were led by Austrian school policy that dictated the differences between Slovene vocational schools. These differences were related to organisation, to position regarding Slovene provinces, to pupils’ social class and sex and to the language of learning. They were mostly German schools. This paper introduces us to several individual demands for expansion of the network of Slovene vocational schools in Slovenia, with emphasis on teacher-training schools.
