Sažetak
Petar Preradović Primary School is among the first schools that were founded in Zadar after the Second World War. Because of its grandiose space and especially due to its educational work and the success its pupils and teachers have been achieving for over sixty years, the school enjoys the reputation of an exemplary primary school institution. The school established a reputation for participating in numerous cultural, public and sports events. In the past, the school was the host of an exceptionally large number of cultural events, was visited by prominent artists, sportsmen, scientists and other distinguished persons, it organized different trips and excursions. Beside its regular educational work, the school attained a reputation due to its many extracurricular activities and its participation on numerous competitions where it has realized notable results, won awards and recognitions. It has developed cooperation and permanent friendships and built a personal, national and creative identity. A high level of educational work with emphasized innovativeness, a constructive cooperation with other schools in the country and abroad with mutual use of pedagogical advisors and educational institutions in the City, region and the Republic of Croatia have been acknowledged by many awards that the school has received so far. Among the ones that particularly stand out are those related to work: the school was chosen as an experimental school and it cooperated with the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar and the University of Zadar that has been using it as laboratory school for several decades now, i.e. as the center of practical training for teachers from a large number of study courses. In spite of a large number of problems it has encountered, Petar Preradović Primary School will remain distinguished mostly because of the results it achieved with its pupils. The exceptional results of its pupils, many of whom are today known as successful professors, doctors, economists, doctors of science, etc., have contributed to its reputation. Nowadays, the School is facing a big problem regarding the decrease in the number of pupils, which is caused by families moving to new residential districts of Zadar because the center of Zadar is turning into a business zone. The school will need to make additional creative effort and offer new pedagogical programmes. This started with the prolonged stay and the implementation of Croatian National Educational Standard by introducing the school tailored to pupil’s needs, by unburdening the pupils by removing redundant contents, by investigative case-based learning approach, by strengthening the educational role of school, by bigger cooperation between the school and local community, field teaching and education in nature. In one word, by additionally increasing the pedagogical standard and the quality of working with pupils. Petar Preradović Primary School has good prerequisites to achieve all this because of its personnel, space and material as well as rich experience.
