Abstract

The Croatian Pedagogic-Literary Society is one of the most distinguished national institutions and the oldest pedagogical association (founded in 1871), that has been active for more than 135 years, and today is the most numerous (more than 2000 members) and the most active professional-scientifi c association of pedagogues and other pedagogical workers in the Republic of Croatia. The 135th anniversary of the Croatian Pedagogic-Literary Society is the occasion to show founding, continuous performance and success of the Society.
The article covers the wide aspect of activities of the Croatian Pedagogic-Literary Society, which was intensive in many directions: social work (assembly of members, operation of branches, management and cooperation), professional-scientifi c activities (organizing many professional-scientific meetings, schools for pedagogues, pedagogic actions) and the importance of publishing activities (book publishing, magazines and journals, especially the magazine “Napredak”). The Croatian Pedagogic-Literary Society has many things to offer for this period of 135 years of continuous existence and fruitful activities and it is hard to cover everything in such a review, which is limited within its volume, however, enough to annotate a rare anniversary that bigger associations and developed social environments could commend.
