Abstract

Since the Mažuranić law on education, educational supervisors overtook the control of schools on the county level, and later on city and district levels. They were the best professionals in their fi eld of work and they held great responsibility. Milutin Mayer started as an educational supervisor in 1908 and succeeded Antun Cuvaj on the position of country educational supervisor in 1912, although, only for a short period, and was soon relocated to the position of the county educational supervisor in Srijem County and later in Virovitica County, i.e., Vukovar and Osijek, and in the period from 1912 to 1921 he worked there. It was completely new location for him as he spent all his earlier life in Zagreb County. The memory of Mayer’s work and life in Srijem and Slavonija, and existing schools, with poor performance, as well as the end of his supervising carrier has completely vanished today, but it should be recorded in the cultural history of a nation, especially in regard to his distinguished role in the Association Braća Hrvatskog Zmaja, where he was a chairman for a long time.
