The foundation of pedagogy and the rise of paedology in Croatia

Abstract
The process of the foundation of pedagogy in Croatia began in the mid 19th century. In the first hundred years of its existence the most intense development of national pedagogy occurred between the two world wars when the traditional education and upbringing gave way to new sought modes. Along with cultural pedagogy as the most influential and the pedagogy of the working school, in accordance with the international currents in pedagogy less prominent tendencies – like paedology – appeared at that time. The paper analyzes the genesis of pedagogy in Croatia until the Second World War with a special attention to the rise and development of paedology.
