Sažetak
The author inquired into the establishment, operation and contribution of the Teachers’ Association of the town Brod and its surroundings in the field of permanent professional education of working teachers. He analyzed the archival materials, records and reports about the Association’s performance that were published in Napredak as well as other necessary documentation. The Association was founded in 1875 under the name the Teachers’ Association
of Brod County in Vinkovci. In 1888 the Association reorganized due to administrative-territorial reorganization and gained a new name, the Teachers’ Association for the town Brod and Brod County. The final organization of the Association was completed between 1907 and 1909 when two other teachers’ associations joined, from Vel. Kopanica and Oriovac. The Association changed its name into the Teachers’ Association Ivan Filipović for Brod County in Brod n/S. On their meetings the following issues were discussed: general problems in pedagogy, practical education, teachings in industry, teaching curricula and syllabi, textbooks and teaching aids as the source of pedagogic, didactical and methodological overloaded schedule for students, specific organizational models in the conditions of schools with one class and non divided teachings. Practical didactical and methodological teachings were held from the point of teachings innovations. The subject of the discussion was a social i.e. economic position of Croatian teachers and measures for improvement.
