Abstract

On the basis of the curriculum for the primary schools in Dalmatia in 1870., children had to be taught more of the history of their immediate mother country, their homeland. As there was not a convenient teaching aid, the author is trying to find about the endeavours made to prepare texts for the subject.

Teachers started collecting gleanings from publications which were at their disposal and there were some endeavours made to write the history of some places (D. Sirovica, Lj. Jurić and others) or some regions (K. Marković, K. Stošić) or even the whole provinces (J. Marković). All these effords, in fact, represent the beginnings of the native history in Dalmatia, an attempt to let the primary school pupils learn about the history of their native place or homeland.
