Abstract
Introduction: This paper aims to explore the personal and professional path of nurse Anica Radmanović and her contribution to the health and social protection of children in Karlovac.
Methods: The reconstruction of data was based on documents stored in the Croatian State Archives, the State Archives of Karlovac, the Archives of the Karlovac General Hospital and private property. Published publications and memoirs of Anica Radmanović's daughter and associates were used to supplement the work.
Results: Anica Radmanović was born in Glina, where she completed four grades of lower grammar school. She graduated in 1941 in the School for Nurses in Zagreb. She worked as a nurse at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases, the Children's Dispensary within the Karlovac Hospital, the People's Committee of the Glina District, and the Children's Day Care Center, where she has been the director since 1953. She was the head nurse of the Children's Day Care Center in Karlovac.
Conclusion: Anica Radmanović belonged to the first generations of civilian nurses employed in Karlovac health institutions. By analyzing her biography, we gain insight into the organization and working conditions of nurses in the Children's Day Care Nursery and the Children's Day Care Center in Karlovac in the second half of the 20th century. She dedicated a large part of her working life to caring for children and educating mothers about health, thereby contributing to raising the quality of child health care in the Karlovac area.
