Sažetak

Based on stenographic minutes of parliament sessions and records made by journalists, who actively followed the political situation in the county, the author of this paper presents the activity of the representatives of the People’s Party of the Šibenik area in the Dalmatian Parliament. Te frst part of the paper explains the context of the establishment and organization of the Dalmatian Parliament and the administrative organization of Dalmatia, or rather the Šibenik area. In 1861, with the return of constitutionalism and the establishment of the Dalmatian Parliament of the Kingdom of Dalmatia, political life became intensifed. Te autonomists attempted to retain their previous advantageous political and social positions with the support of the Government in Vienna, whilst the annexationists demanded unifcation with the Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia, and the introduction of the Croatian language into the entire state administration. Furthermore, during the autonomist administration in the Šibenik area, the annexationists ofen challenged the election processes on the grounds of various irregularities and breaches of the election act. Te second part of the paper presents the representatives’ parliamentary activity until 1879 – the year considered a historical turning point due to the separation of the Serbs from the People’s Party. In such circumstances, the Šibenik area did not differ much from the rest of Dalmatia: the fght for political dominance between the autonomists and the annexationists marked the following two decades. Te political activity of the elected representatives Frane Fontana, Ante Šupuk, and two priests – Josip Raimondi and Josip Mrkica, is presented. Tough the representatives of the People’s Party from the Šibenik area were not elected to more prominent positions within the Party, they took active part in parliamentary discussions and supported the Party’s common goal. Tey strongly defended their personal ideological positions regarding major issues in connection with ecclesiastic competence. Tey furthermore endeavoured to contribute through their work to the further development of the Šibenik area, in particular as regards social and economic issues. Teir activity exercised major influence on the development of the whole area.
