Sažetak

Holiday decoration during Advent is part of the tradition of many European countries, and its heritage dates to ancient times. In the decoration of interior spaces, species that bloom in the winter period predominate, while in outdoor spaces, evergreen species, species with red fruits or deciduous species with red shoots predominate. The species Skimmia japonica Thunb. is an evergreen shrub, which has small red fruits in the winter period and as such fits into the holiday decoration of spaces It can be found on the market from autumn, and becomes especially popular at the end of the year. It is sold in growing containers and is suitable for various possibilities of horticultural use. This paper presents the origin of the species, its morphological characteristics, method of propagation and cultivation in production, horticultural use, describes the cultivars that can be found on the market, and the most
common pests that can cause problems.
