Sažetak

Elis Lovrić is an Istrian singer-songwriter and actress who writes and performs her lyrics in her native dialect of Rabac, which she refers to as Labinjonska cakavica. In the musical narrative Kanat od mora (“A Song of the Sea”), she captures fragments of her childhood imbued with personal emotion, revealing the wondrous worlds of her own microcosm. As a curious young girl fascinated by ships and travel, she now fulfills her dreams – traveling, singing, and spreading love for her homeland and her native dialect. This paper examines the Rabac variant of Čakavian as used in the musical narrative Kanat od mora. The lyrics are analyzed on both phonological and morphological levels. Linguistic features are compared with the description of the Rabac speech variety provided in Ivana Nežić’s 2013 dissertation, in order to determine the extent to which the dialect is preserved in the lyrics and to identify any potential deviations, particularly in light of the fact that this is a musical adapted for stage performance and public reading. We conclude that, despite its contemporary expression, the poetry of Elis Lovrić evokes a traditional sentiment, reflecting the preserved linguistic features of the Rabac speech variety.
