Abstract

Prof. Valnea Delbianco, PhD, has revealed a broad range of scholarly interests, encompassing philological works that include history of literature, Croatian studies, and comparative studies. This paper presents the perspective of two Croatian studies experts, who were active readers of her work and were tasked with proofreading her texts. They study the specificity of her distinctive style and language as presented in two monographs ‒ Talijanski kroatist Arturo Cronia: Zadar 1896. – Padova 1967 (2004) and Razumjeti drugoga (co-authored with Sanja Roić) (2014) ‒ as well as in her scientific articles. The focus is placed on linguistic expression syntax (syntactic-stylistic approach). The choice between stylistic variants, which are often overlooked by modern grammars, highlights the importance of the scientific paper’s style. Namely, writing in the scientific style / academic discourse, which aims to be exact, understandable, reliable and replicable, narrows the reange of stylistic preferences and choices. However, expert philologists, like Prof. Delbianco, find a way to make scientific texts recognizable.
