Abstract

Excavations conducted in 2021 and 2022 investigated three stone burial mounds in the southeastern sector of the Nakovana – Zmijna necropolis. These structures are ring-shaped burial mounds featuring a central grave surrounded by two or three concentric rows of stone blocks. The graves yielded the remains of several individuals, fragments of Greek ceramic vessels, and numerous items of costume, jewellery, and weaponry, suggesting multiple interments. The grave in Mound 1.01 is particularly distinguished by its construction and the abundance of costume and jewellery items. The fi nds date the burials from the late 5th or early 4th century to the 3rd century BC. These results att est to complex burial rituals and funerary practices at the Zmijna necropolis, while the material assemblage demonstrates the intensity of cultural contacts with both neighbouring and distant regions.
