Abstract
This paper presents articles published in Gospodarski list from 1850 to 1894, up to the establishment of the Croatian-Slavonian Veterinary Society (1893) and the Croatian Veterinary Society (1894). Over these 45 years, the journal published 25 articles on horse breeding, written by veterinary professionals or various contemporary agricultural experts. The articles are divided into five thematic categories: The State of Our Horse Breeding and Measures for Its Improvement (7 articles), Feeding, Watering, and Grooming of Horses (6 articles), Horse Purchasing (4 articles), Horse Shoeing (4 articles), and Certain Equine Diseases (4 articles). Although these articles have limited scientific and professional value from today’s perspective,
they should be considered in the context of their time, as they reveal the poor state of horse breeding, and propose measures for its improvement. Most of these articles were unsigned.
