Sažetak

Defining the difference between mental health and mental disorder is a great challenge for mental health professionals. The distinction begins with a deeper understanding of all dimensions and characteristics of a unique, unrepeatable person. Mental health is a separate construct from mental disorder, and each person has a predisposition, under unfavorable circumstances, to develop a mental disorder—often recognized in the narrower and broader social environment even before the person becomes aware of it. Although it is important to treat the symptoms of mental disorder, it is even more important to promote the significance of preserving mental health. A lack of relationships and attachment in a society of imperative consumerism and the neglect of transcendence increasingly leads to a rise in aggressiveness, suicidal ideation, loneliness, addictive behaviors, insufficiently mature patterns of functioning, and an increase in psychosomatic illnesses.
